I am currently in the process of obtaining a 1950 commodore 8 step down,My initial thoughts were to keep it stock except converting it to 12v,BUT I keep hearing and reading about the "splasher system Of Oiling", is this the same system as the chevrolet inline 6's used prior to 1954? DOES THE 8'S HAVE BABBITT ROD BEARINGS? If so I think I will change my plans, as the chevy's prior to 1954 were not reliable at todays turnpike speeds.
someone please enlighten me.0 -
The Hudson 8 has babbits. Do not confuse a Hudson 8 with a chevy six, that 8 will cruise at 65 to 70 all day, with the right differential. If you do decide to sell it let me know!billjharris wrote:I am currently in the process of obtaining a 1950 commodore 8 step down,My initial thoughts were to keep it stock except converting it to 12v,BUT I keep hearing and reading about the "splasher system Of Oiling", is this the same system as the chevrolet inline 6's used prior to 1954? I second that motion! With OD and a low number rear end the eight is as smooth as silk. Oh ,did I mention it's reliable as well as economical? Cruising at 70 MPH + getting 18 MPG. Same trip as another 49 with a 262 no overdrive. he was driving 45-50. I did a lot of waiting at intersections to let him catch up. He was getting 14 MPG.. Let me know if you want to sell it.0
