Correct color rim on 50 commador

Was there a standard color for 1950 rims or was it just the color of the car?

    I have seen Red and Cream on '50s mine being the cream.

    My '50 has red rims. I'm sure that they are original. I recall that a gentleman named Tristansdaz bought a small can of original Hudson red wheel color on ebay last year. The name of the color was Coronation Red. What specific year it was for I don't know. I don't think that he had any intentions of opening it in order that it be scanned and matched. Perhaps it's all dried up. I was just asking on my posting about "Homely/Cute" cars whether '51 was the first year that wheels matched the body color. I think that it might be the case. I'm sure that others who know will weigh in.

    As in years prior to 1950, red wheels were standard on red/maroon, grey, brown & yellow/cream colored cars and cream wheels were standard on the other colors. Beginning in 1951, wheels were painted colors similar to body color, but were enamel rather than laquer, and did not necessarily match the exact body color.

    That was me, the part number on the can is C175652 if that helps anybody. I'd open the can but I doubt it would help much, it's been opened before. If anybody want me to try, I'd be happy to. I just bought it for "just because" purposes.

    FYI. The parts books lists 27 different colors for wheels including four reds.

    Mine are now very similar. I'll post a picture as soon as I get them back from Goodyear. I opted for a slightly darker almond cream, two coats with white primer coat (all powder coating. I went with the darker shade to save some money over a custom blend powder to match the OEM pale yellow cream.

    I would love to know what shade of red the rims were for 49. I was going to take care of mine over Christmas. I was going to do them the same color as my car.....Roman Red. Anyone care to share?

    Well, the parts list has four reds listed for wheel enamel. Two reds match colors used on bodies. Two do not. They are Coronation Red and Vincennes Red. I deduce that Coronation Red is a '54 color because Queen Elizabeth's Coronation was on June 2 1953 and Coronation Cream is a '54 color (way to go Sherlock). That leaves only Vincennes Red. Now all we need is the color formula.
