Tar in floor pans!

I know this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the threads.

Whats is the best way to get the tar off the sheetmetal after ripping the pads

up. The pads stick real well to floor. Just would like to clean things up, so I

can patch rust areas.

    Chip off the thick stuff with hammer and putty knife etc. Kerosene will dissolve tar and is safe to work with. Follow up with mineral spirits which will dissolve the kerosene and dry quickly ready for painting.

    An electric heat gun can be a real help to soften the thick areas. Makes it much eaiser to scrape with a putty knife almost down to the metal so you don't have to work as hard with the solvent.

    I used a propane torch and an assortment of putty knives - followed by a wash with thinner.

    Of course my entire interior was out at the time as well :)

    Thanks for the tips! When I was working on it I thougth that maybe fire was only way to get it off...
