Missed all CA meet by a week
I just spent the last week in the Cambria area, a little town named Cayucas. Great weather all week, my wife and I go up there a couple of times a year. If the meet is there next year again I will drive the Hash up. I didn't take the Hash this time, it hasn't been on the road long enough for a 500 mile trip. The good news it after a week of sitting the car started right up. That has been a problem before, if the car sat for a couple of days it lost the fuel in the bowl and wouldn't start without priming. While I was in Cambria I heard about the Hudson meet, everything said was favorable, the group left a good impression. This years vacation was scheduled before I had a Hudson but next year I will know better, and I'll have a few more months of working the bugs out of the Hash before I try a big road trip. When I got home on Friday my latest Spokes and Points was waiting to show me what I had missed from the meet, I'll miss the Laughlin run also as I'll be in Colorado for work. I sure wish I knew how I messed up retirement and ended up back working.

It wasn't because you bought the Hash was it? lol
My wife and I have gone to Pismo Beach twice a year for pretty much the past 10 years or so. You pass through it to get to your landing point. I would have liked to go to the All CA Meet but I had already made reservations for Pismo the second week in Nov. to spread her ashes there.
There is something serene about actually being able to drive your car on the beach. No, I'm not going to take the Hudson this time, but I plan on it next year. Ahhh.... driving the Hudson on the beach, now that would be a cool picture. I'll have to patch up some of those rust holes in the floorboard first!

Terry;
we shop in Pismo once in awhile when we are up the coast. I'm sorry to hear about the ashes thing but I can't think of a better place to have them spread. I think when I go I'll have mine taken out from Morro Bay and spread off of Cayucas.
If you like Cajun food you should go by Bon Temp in San Luis Obispo, it's on Olive right before you enter the freeway, really it's Creole cooking but most people don't know the difference. Maybe we should caravan up some weekend, eat some creole and drive on the beach.

Is The Hudson Grille still open in San Luis Obispo? Was by the mission, and had good food.0

I don't know but I will next time I go up in January, do you remember what street is was on? It doesn't matter, I can find it if it's still there.

Sorry to report that Hudson Grille has closed it doors in both SLO and Santa Maria. I asked my son in-law today when he was here. They where places we went to eat when visiting on central coast. I agree that Bon Temp in SLO is great. Good food is not hard to find on the central coast.

Thats too bad, there is a store on the Embarcadero in Morro called Hudsons that has some car memorabilia but nothing great. We always get something to eat at Giovannis, great fresh fish, and AJ Spurs for steak. We had a great week as there were two great white shark sightings, one was circling a surfer on his board while he paddled to shore, then a search at night for two knuckleheads on a kayak, all kinds of exciting things going on while we were in Cayucas. We're going back in January, do you have any recommendations for new places to eat?

The place I eat at in SLO is usually Tahoe Joe's, right by the Madonna Inn. Great Steaks. There is one up by you Larry. My wife liked the Apple Farm, but I wasn't crazy about it. Breakfast would end up costing me about $100. (Gift shop.) I make daily visits to Splash Cafe when I'm in Pismo for the clam chowder, and usually bring home 3 or 4 quarts (frozen) to get me through inbetween visits.
Yes, Harry we should cruise up there some time. At least we should make it to the All Cal meet next year.

Terry;
when is next years meet? I have to schedule around work and October is a killer for our rental yard, we are a Kubota dealer and they have a big dealer meeting in the fall. I saw the ads for Tahoe Joes and was wondering if it was any good, kind of looks like Pinnacle Petes in the ads. I got my chowder at the Sea Shanty. Larry, where do you live?

They're all back east, it's like some other restaurants that have left California because of the workers comp laws and other labor laws. Too bad, we need better diners in CA.

Harry, I live in Bakersfield. I get my chowder at the end of Grand next to the entrence of Pismo State Beach. Can't remember name of it now, used to be Rivera many years ago. For steaks my choice is Central City Broiler in Santa Maria on Broadway and Donavon. I could list a lot more, but then you would think all I did was eat. But having a daughter in the area and spending time working over there when they were shorthanded makes for lots of meals out.

Larry;
I probably haven't been to Bakersfield in ten years,nothing against the town,just haven't been there for awhile. Is that Central City Broiler worth the trip from Cayucos, I am willing to travel for a great streak. I know I'll try the chowder in Pismo. I think vacation time is for eating at great eateries.
