37 tranny
Is there anyone out there rebuilding transmissions on the Terraplanes? I have a restored 37 that has a 3 speed tranny that's giving me fits. I'm the second owner, the first owner attempted to install a 41 overdrive system on it, or it is a 41 tranny with overdrive. None of the relays or the kick down switch were in place. But's that's another story. The overdrive is locked out but I can't get the tranny shifting right. The shift lock-outs are working great. If I could find the parts that would be ok also. If anyone has any ideas i would like to hear them.

airmec13,
Call or send it to Al Saffrahn, 502-568-2911. He is real good on Hudson transmissions. I sent my 36 Terraplane tranny to him and was very happy.0 -
Yup, Al's the overdrive expert within the Hudson club!0

Hi---If all else fails, I will have a perfect transmission available this Winter. It is from my restored 37 long wheelbase sedan & is being replaced with a 40 overdrive one. It will be less the bell housing & possibly the top cover since my Hudson has the electric hand & will need those parts. If interested contact Cliff Minard at min1909@pa.net0

You don't have to limit your search to '40 Hudson overdrives. This unit was used by other car makes.
Chrysler - 1940-41
De Soto - 1940
Nash - 1940- Early 1946 (Torque Tube drive shaft)
Studebaker - 1940-46
Willys - 1940-420 -
Where do you live? If you live on the Easttern side of the US you migh try Nelson Creasy in Bloomsburg Pa (near Williamsport) He also has done many trannies for Hudson. He has done repairs on two overdrives for one of our club members and installed an overdrive in another club members stepdown.
Nelson has been repairing Hudsons for many years in his own Auto repair shop. and like most Hudsonites he is a great guy and very helpful
He can be contacted at 717 784 1806

MARS 55, are you saying that the top plate from a 37 Terraplane will go on all of these units? I thought ALL the Chrysler cars except PLYOUTH had fluid drive those yrs ? Or was that a seperate componant ?Been so long ago I don't remember how it was set up.0

No what I am saying is that the Overdrive is the same. The transmissions are different.0 -
mars 55, I'm still lost here. Where/what part then do these trannys/od,s play in useing them on a Terraplane and still retain the elect. shift / Thanks0

On further review, the other overdrives will not work due to the Hudson transmission requiring a special front plate on the overdrive.0
