Front Wiring Harness Availability?

Poking around the 50 the wiring looks pretty good inside the body, the engine compartment shows a lot of bare wires.
Does anyone make a front wiring harness only?

Dan,
Check out Rhode Island Wiring Service. Go to Google then type in Rhode Island Wiring Service. On the left of their website select the year of your car then scan the Table of Contents for a specific application. Their catalog is amazing.

Dan,
I know how you like to do things yourself. The wiring on the 50 is not too bad, you can make the harness yourself. When you think of what it costs for a wiring harness, You can do the entire harness yourself for a fraction of the cost. If you are looking for functionality, that is. If you want correct, and show quality, then you should go with Ehode Island wiring. I heard good things about them.
I also would surmise your car is OD and Supermatic. If you plan on keeping the OD, and ditching the supermatic, you will likely want to make a new harness... anyway. Let me know, I can get you a schematic, and give you a few pointers on the OD, that may make your life easier!
Best!

Hudsonkid makes a good point here. It is not that hard to do, you could probably do it in a long weekend. I did my complete harness from front to rear for around $250.00 (still have the light pig tails to finish)
Here a few things I found out. Rhode island cloth wire by the piece does not come with a laquer finish, Y&Z might. Both places will sell wire in 10' length and has both cloth coverd plastic and plastic only covered wire. You can pick the color, tracer color, and number of tracers.
My 1952 uses a vinyl type wrap, I used Eastwoods but later found out Y&Z makes a rubber wrap. Your 50 may use the cloth wrap which I believe both places carry.
If you can not use your old terminals you may need to check both companies as they do carry different terminals from one another.
The schemetics will give you the color of the wire but not the tracer color or number of tracers. I believe you need the blueprint for that. I just went with a contrasting color and tracer number for each wire.
I used non-insulated terminals and both soldered and then crimped the end finishing it off with shrink tube to give the authenic look. You do not need the adhesive kind of shrink tube it looks a little thick.0 -
I have the RI harness in my car ('50C8), in fact they used my original harness as the pattern for the one they make. They also have their OD and Supermatic harnesses that I supplied for patterns as well. I have found their work and quality of the harness to be first rate.
Even if you are not planning to use the Supermatic it makes for a great conversation piece and I would not toss it. Mine is in working order but needs some more work to get it up and working properly.0 -
Yeah, I guess I should clarify better... You don't want to throw away the supermatic drive stuff, just remove it, and store it, unless, of course, you think you can get it working, with twin H, of course... because anyone can get supermatic or twin H working, just not both together.... I would like to see that!
As far as wiring, I used regular wire, and found the correct guage, in the correct colors for each wire I replaced. Mine is not complete, but fairly thouroughly rewired.
One day, I'll do a complete wiring harness, maybe not, but the $$$$ is too high for essentially a driver, in my eyes. I got plenty of other areas to spend the money on with regards to m car. The wiring is safe now, and correct, not the proper cloth wires, but if anyone would ever end up with the car, they could easil follow a schematic, and figure it all out.0 -
If you are going to have Supermatic and Twin H you could not use the standard air cleaners across the head. I mounted but have not tried the Edmunds 2x2 manifold for my C8 and I could mount both the Supermatic system when I used small top hat type air cleaners on the two barrel carbs. The Edmunds manifold even had a vacuum port that I could use to drive the Supermatic.0

How would you fit the cross over linkage for the twin H and the upper supermatic parts???
Dan, also, to play fair, you got to add an oil filter too!
50C8DAN, do you have an edmunds 2x2 for an 8? howabout a picture???0 -
Hudsonkid you are probably right. I forgot that the carbs on a Twin-H mount 90 degrees from the std. 2 barrel mount. With mine it is a modification of the linkage shaft across the head, with the Twin-H you could not set it up for the Drivemaster/Supermatic linkage. I will try to post some pics of the Edmunds 2x2 for the 8 later this weekend.0

If I had an edmunds 2x2 for an 8, I would build an 8 for my car....
an edmunds head would be better yet!0
