My hind end sags

It appears my rear springs are starting to sag a bit, my 55 Hash has a bit of a competition rake. It also sounds like the shock mounts are getting worn as I hear a slight bang when I hit bumps. I guess my next project will be replacing the back springs, shocks and what ever bushings may be involved back there. I'm driving the car daily and it seems the thermostat isn't closing as the engine doesn't warm much unless it's hot out. I've got the timing right but I still have a top end problem. I can't tell if the car is flooding out some or leaning out. I step on the throttle and the car kind of sputters, I let off and step down again and then it smooths out and accelerates. I found my number two plug wire was tight against the air cleaner so I put a bent wire under the aircleaner and put the straight wire on number three, that may have been part of my miss. Saturday I'll put in the pertronix ignition. Does anyone have any suggestions on replacing the rear springs?

Eaton Spring furnishes new coil springs for many antique cars, they're on the web (try your search engine). You might also try various Nash / AMC vendors for NOS springs, since of course Nash and Hduson shared the same body shell under the AMC banner. Then too, various and sundry Hudson vendors might have what you want...

Harry,I have the same problem so I decided to quit eating!!! Well a few recommendations before you start.First measure the ride height Before you start your project and then you can share those stats with this forum after you complete your project.Check the ride height on all 4 corners.Sometimes you can have a height problem in the front and rear, and if you fix one end it only compounds the problem on the other end. Also when you find the springs, tell them your vehicle is equipped with a continental kit. Also, are the tires all the same size and all have about the same wear?.

The Front Springs Can Be Shimed With A Peice Of Plywood You Have To Remove The Front Spring And Place The Plywood Above The Spring Saddle I Have Done It A Few Times And It Works Great And It's A Lot Cheaper Than Buying Front Springs Now As For The Rears Springs I Have A Nos Set Call Me AS FOR THE BANGING SOUND I WOULD CHECK THE REAR SHOCK RUBBERS ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM I THINK YOU'LL FIND A BAD TOP RUBBER CAUSING THE TROUBLE

  • Thanks guys, good advice on measuring the ride height, I'll be sure to do that. Paul, the front looks correct and I was betting a shock rubber for the height. I'll call you about the springs when I get a few moments to slow down and it's not so late back where you are. I do need the front plate holder and a fuel tank sending unit so I may have to have everything boxed up together. I don't know how my budget is going to feel about all this though.
