1951 Hornet Emblems
Hi All,
I'm new to this Forum and I just bought my first Hudson. A Black '51 Hornet which needs to be restored. The body is fairly solid as is the frame with the exception of the drivers front floor pan a quarter size hole over one rear quarter wheel opening. My question is this, I have read the articles on K-Gap/ Kanter and other sites. Does anybody make or sell Hornet emblems and trim pcs. I am missing the front fender spears that set on top and the previous owner removed the "Hornet" from both front fenders. The rest of the trim is there and intact. I was pumped to find this website as I will undoubtedly have many more questions. Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks

Royal Lancer,
Welcome to the world of Hudson. I strongly suggest you join the HET club. There are many wonderful parts, resources and cars in it but the best part is it's people. We are a non-judging club so you won't get 'hosed' for a part you need. Here's the link - http://www.hudsonclub.org/ .
Good luck in you restoration project. Oh, and thank you.

If you attend any of the regional or National Hudson Meets, you'll be sure to find those pieces. The fender spears are quite common and the hornet emblems for the side are 51 only but not that difficult to get. Frank Duluey in NY may have them. Join the HET, just the Club Magazine is more than worth the annual dues. Good luck with your hornet. If it's a coupe, you're lucky to have the stainless trim, as it's tough to find.0

Watch Ebay also, for Hudson parts. You'll catch most of them if you go to Ebay Motors, parts and accessories, and search under Hudson. Usually 500 to 600 listings at any given time. I see both the items you're looking for come up fairly regularly (although if the fender rockets are 1951 only, that might narrow the field a bit). Welcome to the Hudson board (and hobby)- pretty good bunch of folks, and generally quite helpful. You won't find much "flaming" on this board, and even if someone disagrees, they generally point it out tactfully. Kind of refreshing, and makes it fun to come on the board just to "hang out".0

As ruler of the Hudson board, I welcome you as well, royallancer...
I would second the notion to join the hudson club, as well as take advantage of the vast supply of chrome out there on eBay, etc... However, with everything caveat emptor, on the ebay route...
COntact SamJ on here, he should likely be able to hook you up with a complimentary issue of the WTN, I think they still offer them, I hope so, because I send a lot of folks that way.
as Hudsondad noted, Frank Dhuley, who is listed in the HET roster, likely has the parts you're looking for. The top fender rockets are pretty common, and even turn up NOS. they were used on most models hudsons from 1950 till 1953, and some 54, whether they were dealer added, or not, i'm not one to debate much on here...
You will find a broad range of prices for your top fender rockets, I bought several in the 20-25 range, NOS, but usually, they seem to be a bit more... You will find them in LEAD recast, as well, which, if you don't mind, they have a bit more weight to them.
The side Hornet rockets, are a different story. They will likely be a bit more, and if you look, NOS ones are available. Just make sure you find out a correct part number, and get the right ones. 52, and 53 are different than 51's...
Your car will likely need a few other pieces, or at least I imagine, I would bet on the rear fenders, they have a "porkchop shaped pot metal piece, that is often pitted, and needs replaced. These are available as well, and not terribly difficult to find, but expect to pay anywhere from $100-200 for a nice set.
Be cautius who you approach to buy chrome. If in doubt, do a search, especially on this forum. If nothing comes up, ASK! we are a helpful bunch, and try our best to further the hobby.
When the time comes, we have found lots of resources for modern parts that will make your hudson work. Check out the forum further, check out the links at the end of my post, in my signature, etc... they are all a wealth of information.
Best!
