1934 Terraplane Cabriolet Upholstery

Hi!!

Does anyone out there have a 1934 Terraplane "Challenger" (112" WB) cabriolet (convertible coupe) that I could see some photos of???

I have this same model and am attempting to do the upholstery right now but I am lacking information.

I have searched "everywhere" for photos or some kind of help but have found NOTHING!

So I wonder if someone has a similar (or at least another type of 34 Terraplane convertible) that he could send me some photos of.

What I need mostly is pictures of the interior (seats, door sides, floor, etc) both the front compartment and the rumble area.

I am trying to have it as original looking as possible (but I will be happy just to get it "close" to original).

I am in a bit of a hurry as my upholstery is already starting work.

Can anyone help me???

Thanks!

Lars

Lars - it would be of genuine leather which came in several different colors.

Contact Peter Smith in Calif. as he has one I sold him, still has fairly decent orig. uph. in the rumble seat, orig. front pretty bad but can still see design.

If you can't find Peter in the HET e-mail list e-mail me & I'll send it to you.

Steve Blake in Texas has one like your completely restored altho I've never seen it. Peter's is a long w.b. model, Steve's the std. w.b. but uph. the same.
  • Thanks so much, nonentity. (Sorry I don't know your name)

I have in fact been in touch with Peter a bunch of times, the first being several years ago. He has a similar car he was restoring but then roughly around a year ago when I also requested some photos, he told me he had lost interest in the car and was back (I think) into motorcycles.

Although I believe he hasn't sold the car, it is apperently not ready to be photographed either.

I have an old sales brochure of the 1934 Terraplanes that lead me to understand the car could optionally be upholstetred in some kind of textile (broadcloth??) or leather and with the rumble seat in leather (or a leather like material?)

I admit I went the less expensive route and obtained the broadcloth for the front area (seat, door, etc) and vynil for the rumble area.

This brochure mentions that a red piping was used on all seats, regardless of style.

There is also a drawing of the seats but it is very generic looking and not clear at all. It shows deep lies and buttons in the seats. It is not clear nor very helpful however.

I wonder if you have any photos of the car when it was yours? (Well, they would not be digital then I guess, so we better forget that.)

Would there be any chance I could contact this gentleman in Texas to possibly obtain photos of his upholstery??

I bought my car from a man who was "restoring" it but gave up. I had to redo a lot but still did not do a complete frame off job. The first thing that was redone was the engine & transmission.

I love HET cars and have a small handful....my next project (rather headache!) will be a 1938 Hudson Eight Brougham, as there is very little information or parts on thsi car!

Hope to hear from you and thanks again for your help!
