Air Cleaner question

I was lucky enough to find an air cleaner for my 1939 112 on eBay and have cleaned it up ready for painting. My question is about a hole that is in the side of it and I wonder if anyone can tell me what it's for. I've aattched a couple of pictures showing what I'm talking about.

    My 36 Terraplane has a similar hole in the bottom of the air cleaner, and it was a place where an air line for the Electric Hand hooked to. I looked in my 34-39 maint manual, and it shows a line running from the solenoid on the tranny to the air cleaner on a 39. Not sure, but it looks like this might be what it is for. I'm sure some of the members that are familiar with the 39's will set me straight if not.

    If that's not it, I think it may be where the nitrous tank connects.

    Its the electric hand air tube hole. I f you donot have an electric shift you probably could find a nice rubber plug at a parts store to put in it. Or you could fill the hole and paint over it and nobody would now the difference.

    If the hole is threaded it may have been for a bracket which went from there to the cylinder head for supporting the air cleaner as is on most '46 Hudson's.

    Huddy42 your answer makes more sense My 37 with electric shift has air tube hole out the bottom, latter cars had a aircleaner support bracket on the side of the aircleaner to cly. head could this air cleaner be for a latter car than 1939? I have Hudson manual somewhere that shows the year they started with the aircleaner support bracket, but by the time i find it someone will have you the answer.

    Yes, it sounds like it may be a later model air cleaner, is it dry or oil bath.?

    My 1942 also has the air tube under the air cleaner for the vacumatic clutch.

    Its hard to tell from the picture but the air cleaner in the picture looks like a air cleaner for a 2bbl. carb or is it? Hudson 112 came with a 1bbl. Carter w-1 for economy. Just a thought, just curious. You can always put a 2bbl. manifold and carb on one i think.

    Looks like a bullet hole to me. Are you guys sure you didn't just get frustrated with the car at some time and pull out Ol' betsy?

    I see people mention how they finally found a 112 part or some other Hudson part. I have a 112 and other parts I cant sell or get rid of here in South Australia. I even have the inside door pillar upholstery badges. In Australia there are less Het cars and less demand for parts than in the USA.



    I have a 1939 '112' with the 2 rear doors thrown away and a large hole cut in the roof. It was used for rabbit shooting. You would have to trust the driver if you poked your head up through the roof. I know of a 1946 Hudson done for the same reason. Several years ago I bought a package deal to get something I needed. It included 9 perfect doors, grill, bumpers, guards, bonnet & boxes of bits. Ive advertised them many times, and am now resigned to including them in my will.



    There are a lot of interesting things happening lately Hudsonwise. Replacement parts have been found for clutch throwout seals, Hudson man in Sydney is recasting the inside mirror holder & the outside air vent chrome moulding for the 37 Terrras.
