In reality, there is no real Hudson V-8. After the merger with Nash to form AMC, Nash used a Packard engine in Hudsons before designing their own small V-8.0

I believe I've heard of some fellows installing the Hudson (straight) eight into the pickup trucks. While these were available for the Hudson passenger cars of the pickup truck era, I don't think they were offered for the trucks, but I think there is enough room for them.0

I think AMC's 327 V8 was available later on in 56-57 Hudsons but don't quote me on that as I don't know a lot about '55-'57 Hudsons tech specs.
If you want Hudson made performance and experimentation the 308 Hornet is your baby. (as they say "6! Who needs 8?!" ) Plus it's way more interesting at shows to see hopped up 308's.
A few brave and adventurous souls have experimented with the performance potential of the 254 Hudson straight 8, and the 262.
There's also one non-Hudson v8 that will suposedly bolt in with no mods to the motor mounts but I don't remember which v8 that was.0 -

It is my understanding that a Hudson straight 8 is a bolt in, or nearly so, for the 46-47 pickups - as is the 308 and 262's.

The V-8's in Hudsons were all after the conversion to the Nash body, so no reason to think they would bolt in (or be "appropriate")- I second the huffed 308 idea- I have one in my customized '48 coupe, and people at shows get a lot bigger kick out of looking at it, than the umpteenth SBC.0

I think the early Olds V-8s are as close to a bolt in as you can get, especially in stepdowns with a hydromatic. They have a center front mount and two rear side mounts at the transmission.0

There was a PU for sale at Hershey w/ a Hudson 8 in it last year. Pretty rough and the guy was asking $8K.0

To mount a Hudson Straight Eight in a pickup, as I did in my 46, you need to move the motor mount pans to the radiator mounting position. Then grind off the rivets holding the old motor mounts for the 6, and remove the mounts.
Then you need to fashion a couple of brackets from a commadore 8 (or email me for a pic and dimensions) for mounting the radiator in the new position on the cross member.
The Hudson eight will then bolt right in.
I prefer the iron head with HUDSON cast in the top. It'll look great at the car show and give you more performance than you need in the truck.

as a side note, a 41-47 eight is that easy, a 48-52 eight will require an 41-47 oil pan and a little grinder work to clear the steering0
