Hi everyone, as I have only been a Hudson guy since last Feburary I have a lot to learn. When someone refers to the splasher engines, just what are they referring to? What years and sizes are splasher engines? Thanks in advance, Richie.

All Hudson 6 cyl engine up to 1947, and 8's to 1952, used what is described as a "circulating splash lubrication system", in which a small pump delivers oil from the sump to a series of trays under the rods, which have dippers on them to scoop the oil up. The excess oil is flung up into gutters in the crankcase, which feed down into the main bearings. After the oil circulates right through the trays, it drains back into the sump, and recirculates.

Various sizes - Essex Four cyl (198 c.i.") Hudson super Six 288 c.i., and smaller sixes ranging from 130 c.i. through to 212 over the years.
