Grease is like oil, a lot has changed since 1947, all for the better. I simply use a good quality multipurpose grease for about everything except wheel bearings, and where electrical grease is called for, whether it's a newer peice of eguipement or an old one0

Try grease they use for marine uses.Available from any marine outlet.0

I've been using marine grease (blue) in my 1953 Nash for years. I think it works well. I have had a couple of water pumps go out (leak), but I do not think it was because of the marine grease.0

Forgot to mention that you can purchase the grease at just about any auto parts store.0

Thanks to all who replied. I have done a little more checking and found that aluminum soaps are made of napthenic and palmitic acids which when mixed with gasoline make "napalm"! I also looked on a can of water pump lube and found that the ingredients contain "napthenic oil mixture" . In addition there are companies I have never heard of (like Shanghi Naco Lubrication Co.) that make Aluminum Soap Grease. A friend has some left over from a 39 Hudson he had and has volunteered to bring it to the next meeting. I think I'll take him up on it.What lubricant should be used in Hudson water pumps with grease zerts (ie 40-47)? The manual calls for an aluminum soap lubricant. What's that??
Thanks
