Tim, The 49 262 distributor is of slightly different design than the 308 distributor. The 51-54 262 distributor will work with the 308 distributor .Good morning.
I'm replacing my 262 with a 308 in a 49 Commodore. Will the distributor off of the 262 fit the 308?
Thanks,

I have a 54 308 distributor in my 49 262. I used it so i could use a Pertronix electronic module. The two distributors have very little if any interchangeable parts, but will work fine. The differences in advance curves might cause problems in a high performance application, but I couldn't feel any difference in the seat of the pants. I see no reason why a 262 distributor wouldn't work in a 308.

HAD A 308 IN MY 53 HORNET COUPE YEARS AGO AND NEVER COULD GET IT TO PERFORM WORTH A DXXX, FOUND IT HAD A 262 DIST FROM A WASP., CHANGED IT TO AN 009 HORNET DIST AND THE CAR CAME ALIVE. MY RECOMENDATION IS DONT USE AS 262 DIST IN A HORNET, THE DIFFERENT ADVANCE CURVES JUST DO NOT ENTERCHANGE EFFECTLIVELY. sthe factory knew what they were doing. BILL ALBRIGHT0
