Heater motors

Is there a part # for a stepdown heater motor ? My parts guy got me one that only required slight modification but it is a 6v motor. The book says it is 12 but the motor says 6 right on it. I tried it anyway and it sounded like a Cat 5 hurricane when I turned it on. The other motors he has got me won't fit. Any ideas?

    Rob, The OEM Hudson part number for that is 303657 from 50-54.

    Did the 54s come with a 12 volt system? Thought they were 6 volt.

    I have a Rebuilt 6 v motor for a stepdown...Let me know if you need it.

    All stepdowns were origionally 6 volt positive ground including the 1954 model year.

    FYI

    I installed a Voltage Reducer available at JC Whitney (and others) to utilize the 6V heater with 12V System. However, since I dont drive it in the winter I never need to turn on the blower because the forced air thru the 'Vent' is sufficent to heat the car on cool autum days

    I put in a 1.5 ohm power resistor which stepped 12 volts used down to 6V at amperage needed for blower. Works fine, but as "Ol Racer" pointed out, really didn't need to in our Southern climate - even in winter forced air was enough! If you go the resistor route, it is a good idea to mount it in the heater box so that air passes over it- cooling the resistor, and contributing to the heater output :) Believe Park W. has a drawing of the setup posted somewhere.     I am not sure where the bill is on it but I can get it. I already have a voltage drop in there which I used with the origional motor. I just thought since I was replacing it I could get a proper 12v then get rid of the drop. I don't like how warm it gets even though I hardly use it here in So Cal

    FYI

    If you are serious about a needing Blower Motor in So Cal check out glsautoparts.com for a universal 12V motor then switch your 6V Hudson fan assy. Might have to modify the bracket a little....
