new home, a little more work

ive been busy getting to the bottom of what needs to be done to the body of my pacemaker.

the sills have had an old repair, while its not at all pretty it is in no need of re-working, so i will be happy with it once the lower seam is smoothed over a bit.

the front 1/4 panel and the bottom edges of the doors will need a little (or maybe a lot) of work, have not dug right through the filler there yet.

Comments

  • boot floor has a sheet screwed in over the top of the oringinal floor, which isnt in the best of shape, but not too bad either from what ive seen of it (i didnt finish ripping the sheet out before i left for work today)

again there is an old repair of the perimeter frame that will need some tidying up.
  • Unlike some other cars, at least you have ready access to inspect and make repairs. The areas you mention don't look that bad in the pics.
  • the outer sheet to the right hand perimeter rail has had some flat slid in through the hole and plug welded along it, therefore it has started to rust from mud building up between the two sheets (this thing spent a LOT of time on dirt roads)

here is the reason the boot floor was sheeted over
  • Still, it doesn't look to be beyond hope. It looks like lots of the dirt from the roads wound up inside the body. What's up with your plans to come to the US?
  • yeah nothing im afraid of, i'll have to borrow a bead roller to get the floor right but aside from that it should be a reasonably easy save.

as for my visit to your end of the world, my resignation is in, i got my passport today and i intend on leaving for the california sunshine in the 2nd week of june. should be good fun!
  • Better hurry up on that Hudson. June will be here before you know it.

How long do you plan to stay in the US? This is a good time for you to hit California, the beaches will be full of babes who will be glad to show you around and help you learn the customs. :)
  • i'll be spending roughly 3 months in the usa. as for the ca beaches, i'll be in the central valley so they'll be a rare sight indeed.

i have no plans of finishing my pacemaker off before i go. it can wait a little longer, its waited this long. i'll have more time for it since i wont be working full time when i come home
  • Ah, to be young again...sigh.

Central valley you say...hmmm. You'll be Okay since the "Valley Girls" are supposed to go for guys with an accent, car, money, etc. :D

The Pacemaker may be better left for a later date anyway. After all, collecting needed parts while you're here should be cheaper than having to ship them over. Would you still pay duties if you bring car parts back with you?
  • i dont know quite what i will have to pay on import taxes etc for bringing things home, but i cant see it being too dear. as far as i know my shopping list can be almost completely filled by the local hudson parts man, all that i really need from the usa is a twin lever OD trans and a 10" clutch disc with fresh corks along with a few bits from dale cooper and randy maas

and as for those valley girls, all i have for them is an accent!
  • Better to do your shopping while you're hear. At least if there is a problem, you won't get killed on shipping or duties. The accent is a good start, just be prepared. The Valley Girls will probably ask you where in England you're from. When you say Australia, be prepared for a long, blank stare. LOL
  • thats funny. despite never having left the country, i do have a little bit of an english inflection to my aussie accent according to a few people ive dealt with in my 26 years. how i got it, i have no idea.
  • Rather than trying to explain to the Valley Girls where Australia is, you might just want to say you're from England. It will save lots of frustration and prevent their heads from exploding like a Fem Bot from an Austin Powers movie. LOL Hmm, an English inflection you say. Do you have regional accents there like we have here or do all Aussies sound the same?
  • its kind of even across the country until you get to perth, there are a few ive met from down fremantle way that sound a little english. maybe queenslanders have the strongest accents (multiculturalism hasnt made it that far yet).

if there is an argument to be had with a pretty lady over where i come from, im sure not gonna back down from it
  • Just tell them you're crocodile Dundee's cousin, at least then they'll know you're from outback, they won't know where outback is but unless they've been to the restuarant, then they'll think you have a job waiting tables or tending bar. Tending bar is a lot farther up the food chain to valley girls so try to lead them in that direction. If you wear a hat put a big ostrich plume in it so they will think you are metrosexual. You have so much to learn grasshopper and so little time.
