AAAHHHHHH another new guy

I am new to Hudsons. My name is Jason but usually go by J Man in the world of the internet, I had to make my name a little longer for thos place. I am more into rods and customs(sorry). I recently bought a Jet, it is a 2 door. I plan to build a nice custom out of it, not anything too wild. I want to make it a nice driver and it is actually for my wife. I do want to swap in a small V8 and overdrive auto tranny, front disc brakes and a slight lowering. Other than that it will be pretty close to the way it came off the assembly line.

I do know the car will need new rockers, lower quarter patches and possiblr fender patches. One I actually pick it up I will have a better idea. If anyone has connections to gget these parts that would be cool.

I have a few other cars ranging from a '25 T truck to a '66 Divco. I live in NW OH, not sure if anyone else is near by or not. I am an auto worker and believe in buying American. I sometimes annoy people with that but I have first hand knowlage of what happens when you job gets shipped to another country. I also like photography and hobby farming. If you want to know anything else just ask.

  • Welcome to the Hudson board. You may be able to sell the original parts you cast off when you build your custom. I think the car shipped with a 308, and am wondering if it has Twin H. Do you know what year the car is, and does it have 2 carbs? Be careful with the parts you remove and you might be able to help someone else restore a Hudson. Best of luck. -Chris
  • Welcome new Hudnut
I'll get the stainless in shape for ya if you're keepn' some of it on the car, I'm a stainless saviour, the metal messiah. Just let me know, and just ignore any unsavory purists
Huds are cool any way you want'em.

Welcome, J Man! Best of luck with your new acquisition! You've come to the right place for Hudson-only advice and parts.

I would echo Chris' thoughts: don't pitch any parts you pull off that Jet, there is a small but active market for those parts.

Also, you may want to post in our Hudson "Street Rods" forum with your "modified-specific" questions, since the folks there "talk the talk" and will have a lot of knowledge about modified suspensions, engines, conversions, etc. For finding the "original" stuff like sheet metal, the "regular" forum will be a good place to post.

J Man, since you're from NW Ohio, you'll want to attend the 44th Annual Souers Hudson Meet in Fort Wayne May 17 and 18. There's info on this forum about it...I'll kick it back to the top for you. There will be some Jet enthusiasts there.

J-man, Welcome to the forum. I too am from NW Ohio and have owned a Super Jet since 1966 (see avitar above). I'm also the '53 -'54 Jet tech advisor for the HET club. If you are not already, you may want to consider joining the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club.

  • J-man, welcome to the forum, this is a great group to be able to go to for information and help. I know that any time I've posted a question I will have help within hours if not within minutes. On another forum I've posted questions on my questions disappear into cyberspace, no responses ever. Join your local HET chapter and the HET and you'll always be part of a big friendly family.

  • Welcome J-Man! I have a jet too, actually three, if you need any parts let me know, or if you want to sell the parts that you are not using let me know. The rockers are hard to find, I had a set of NOS, but I sold them to a guy in Washington state. I live in southern Indiana.

    Good Luck, Barry Smedley

Welcome aboard, Jason! I was wondering when I'd see you around these parts. I look forward to seeing progress on your Jet and having some fresh ideas on the drawing board.
  • Welcome to the world of Hudsons. There's plenty of room under the hood for just about any V-8 you'd want. I'm not sure about getting replacement panels, mine were fixed the old fashioned way...BONDO!

    Have Fun!

    Er....It didn't ship with a 308. Shipped with a 202 CID engine with a 3 in bore and 4 3/4 stroke.

Single Carb with 7.5 compression gave 104 HP

Single Carb with 8.0 compression gave 106 HP

Twin H with 7.5 gave 112 HP and with 8.0 gave 114 HP
  • The car is a '54 Super Jet, it only has one carb on the motor. I plan to put a Buick 215 in it, a nicely built one. Any parts that I take off the car will definatly be sold or traded for other parts. I rarely scrap anything.
