Assuming this is indeed "as advertised", it's going to be somewhat difficult to put a value to it, simply because so few of these ever come up for sale that no consistent price pattern can be established.

This might be one of the fabled '55 ('56?) engines that J.C. Whitney offered for sale up into the 1960's; they were the basic Step-Down engine, but manufactured after Hudson became part of AMC, and they had hydraulic valves. However, I wasn't under the impression that they came complete with generator (if they have an alternator then something's DEFINITELY amiss!).

With such a large object, stating your location might be important. Do we gather that you're from North or South Carolina?

Jon - wonder if this might be the person who bought the one at recent auction & is now trying to "turn it over" for a profit?
  • thanks jon...you are correct that it is a generator....also says "power dome"on engine...i am in north carolina...thanks again
  • no,but do you know what it went for at the auction?

    $1700 according to previous post
  • The Hudsons at auction thread shows several pictures of two different Hudson engines in Crates. Both are JC Whitney engines which are infact left over Hudson stock that is equipped with all engine accessories... ie ready to drop in as replacement motors. These engines are either 55 or 56 vintage and that is determined by teardown only. The engines come complete with twin carb inductions circa 55+. The value of the engine is both from a historic prospective and the eyes of the beholder... so what it brought at auction does not necessarily set a true value. Most of the HET overhaul and rebuilders will attest it costs 1700 dollars or more to purchase the parts to overhaul and engine... + labor and other costs... so hope to see your pictures and a cost you want for this new find.

    Cheers

Oh come on Jeremy. These guys don't bite....well most don't. :D You won't find just one expert here, but many. And sometimes they disagree. What is best is if you get everybody looking at them. You will learn a whole lot more than if you send it to one person. Post your pics for all to view and I think you will see these guys will treat you like a gentle lover. :D
