Bumper-Lower Arm / Removal Problem

I have new bumper-lower arm (A1-20, Group 10.052, part No 159716 or 307479) from K-Gap.

Both OEMs have come off their original mountings.

How you get those large washer plates to lock so the nut can be removed and new unit be installed?

I tried wedging a small pry bar but I can not get enough pressure on it.

Your help, tips and techniques are most appreciated.

  • If I'm understanding the problem correctly it sounds as though you could notch a piece of steel and insert it from the same general location as with the pry-bar allowing the steel to fit snugly above and below the washer thus not allowing that piece to turn freely.

I've used a heavy screwdriver with a square cross section behind the blade as a prybar several times. Corners seemed to catch pretty well, but it took a good bit of pressure- enough to bend temporarily. Had the advantage of having the front end off the car though, and so all easily accessible.

A good soaking with penetrating oil helps! Also if badly rusted - wire brush exposed threads to clean them before trying to back the nut off. reduces fight once started.

This is a good time to use an impact wrench. maybe borrow an electric one if you don't have compressed air. Thats what i used on my 49 .
