What model is my car? Body Manual
I'm attempting to remove a piece of broken glass from my '48 4 door Super Six. I'm reading the Body Manual (which has xeroxed photos that are hard to see).
There are 2 different instructions for glass removal. All apply to 1948 to 1954. One says "Except 1C, 1D , 2C, 2D, and 3D". The other is for those models. I don't know if my car is or is not a 1C, etc.
Also, if someone could post a good pic, or simple set of instructions for glass removal for a 1948 Super Six 4 door, I'd appreciate it.
I'm trying to replace the glass in the driver's door (not the wind wing, the large piece of glass).
Thanks;
-Chris

You have a model 481
1C - 1953 Jet
2C - 1953 Super Jet
1D - 1954 Jet
2D - 1954 Super Jet
3D - 1954 Jet Liner0 -
Yeah, I guess the Jet is pretty different from the other Huds of the time. I once saw a Pacemaker up close. Except for the front grill, it looked exactlly like my car. Are Super Six, Commodore, and PaceMaker the same, except for chrome? :-)
Thanks very much. The manual doesn't seem to tell you what model you are.
Now I'll see if I can even read these Xeroxed pages.

Chris if your car is a 48 super six it is a 481. The 1C/3Ds are Jets. If my memory serves me right you have to take the wind wing glass and frame out to get the big one out. with the door covering off you will see the screws holding it all in except one screw in the top of the wind wing frame. You will have to pull the window (big glass) channel down just behind the chromed bar to get to this screw. Think thats it but been a while ago the last glass I replaced.0

Yeah, I think the strategy is, Get the Bottom of the glass to slide Right, so the two pins that are part of the bottom glass holder will unlock from the "cross arms". (Knowing the names of things is good too. :-) ) I think I'm almost there. Have not yet used my 4 letter word quota for the day. :-)
Instructions seem to only want me to loosen the center glass channel enough to get some give I guess. Those screws seem to be missing anyway

Man, that glass doesn't wanna skew right. I'm gonna start removing screws till the door falls apart. :-)0

I remarked some time ago that I hoped the club might reproduce the body manual again (if on hand supplies ever run low) using a more modern copier. The pictures are very poor.0

I agree 100% on this. Ron P.0 -
I got it out.
It's important to leave the screw honding the wind assembly and cross arms in, and only remove the bottom screw honding the base of the center glass channel. That will give you enough give to shove the glass right. If you loosen all screws, the cross arms will move right also and the glass bolts will not move to the open position in the "key hole".
It takes a little muscle, but the center glass channel is only held in by "screws a and b" I think. Wiggle the center channel and it will eventually break free.
The glass will NOT come out the bottom of the door. It will come out the top once the center channel is out.
Sending these instructions back in time 3 hours to myself. :-)

I try to keep a Wiki page on my Hudson exploits. I'll take some pics and hopefully post to my page. I need to put it on a public server too.0
