On ebay, 3 more days - http://tinyurl.com/44bdtb . This is a MUST HAVE!!!
Are these people serious. It's not even a large model. Maybe I should rethink about putting my 1:18th Hudson and 1:24th #6 Hudsons on ebay - at the current prices I might get enough to hire a limosine to take me to the National meet.
In contrast there is a Brooklyn 1931 Hudson boat-tail in 1:43rd scale on ebay - bids with a day to go are up to $12 and change

I'm not sure what happened in the world of white metal models, but they sure did jump in going price in the last few months. I'm lucky to have bought the ones I have for the price that I did.0

Why not, the same people seem to think $125K for a convertible is okay. Or $50K for a driver is fine. People just seem to have to much disposable income or investment income or something. I think people are definately crazy. I'm thinking car investment and toy investment is going to take the same downturn as housing. I can look at three homes within a block of me that are now the banks because the homeowners kept borrowing against their equity that really wasn't there. How much longer before the car speculators are in the same boat?

I read an article the other day that said the asians are starting to send back the American iron they were buying a few years ago. Right now the big investment for them are diamonds. Even gold and silver are taking a backseat to diamonds. The article I read said that the American cars were coming back to Americans for lots of reasons but fuel costs, the crowded roads and unavailability of parts was playing a big role plus a new pride in things made in Asia plus the killer costs of registering older American cars was making them less attractive.

Well during a downturn in the economy in the early-mid- '80's The prices of old cars and artwork started skyrocketing because when the economy and investments go bad people start looking for solid tangible assets to hedge inflation so things like Gold and collectibles pick up in value in a downturn for people to store their cash and ride out the lows. So you get a bunch of speculators and such that really aren't car people. When that happened some veterans of the old car hobby made out like bandits and many speculators lost their shirts in old cars because they found out the fact is few cars are actually investments with the exceptions of maybe Dusenbergs or cars that will always be popular like your '57 Chevy Convertibles.
Also in the '80's Asians for a time didn't want old American iron because it was associated with the Japanese mafia so had a stigma to it. Today I think the overseas buyers are in Europe since they've got a currency that's worth more than the dollar. I sold a '46 Dodge Sedan to a guy in Finland last summer.... that region supposedly has a very active and enthusiastic car hobby and old American Iron is respected there for the reputation it has before and after WW2. .....but what happened in the '80's could happen again in this downturn.
What I'd be more concerned about from the Chinese is that steel will go up in value to the point that old America cars start getting stolen to melt down for scrap metal..... There's already been @%^$$%'s running around stealing Copper tubing out of apartment buildings, Bronze plaques off of monuments (high copper content) and Catylitic converters off people's cars! And the stuff isn't going to American scrapyards....no the %@#%#$ are actually rounding it up and shipping it overseas!! Clearly the global economy has a way of causing many of us headaches, but I guess it's here to stay.0 -

About the time the stock market levels off and becomes stable, Harry. Anytime the stock market gets squirrely, commodiites - old cars, collectibles, futures (corn, wheat, etc) - take off.
Answer to the whole problem is shoot the speculators. They're the ones driving the rising prices of just about everything.

Well said, as they (spectulators)especially help send up the price of fuel, lets hope they get burnt in a down turn and there has been warnings on some finanical markets this is well on the cards0 -

A co-worked of mine left his Altima parked at an Enterpise rental lot while out of town. When he got back he started it up and someone has stolen the resonator (mistook for Catalytic Converter I guess). It's crazy to have that stuff happen in a relatively small town.
Lucky for him a local muffler shop patched it up with straight pipe for $20, but Enterpise had no security, it was a "Park at your own risk" lot. They hit 2 other cars next to his as well.0 -
I looked at this 1/43 scale Hornet Hollywood on Ebay the other day and was a bit suspicious of the price. Perhaps a number of the seller's friends are bidding up the price hoping to lure some die cast collector out there to pay this kind of money. Yes, some 1/43 scale die cast models can be purchased new from reputable model car shops for prices around $200.00 - $300.00. There's a company out there that makes a 1/43 scale '47 Hudson for around $300.00. But, over $600.00 for a die cast model that has a sagging front end and somewhat exaggerated body detail?!! Again, I'm a bit suspicious of the whole thing.0
