  • Hi Dave,

This is just a thought, but you might try taking the plug w/copper washer to an auto parts supply that caters to professional shops, ie NAPA, or Car Quest, etc. They should have an assortment of replacement copper washers used on different brake hose fittings, and might be able to match you up. If they don't have something on hand, ask if they have a buyer's guide listing in their brake parts catalog that they might check for you. This will have illustrations, and measurements of the different sizes available to them. (That last part is why I didn't suggest Auto Zone, or other mass marketing "auto parts stores" as their eyes usually just glaze over if you ask for an application not in the all-mighty computer). If they have to special order in the size you need , you may have to buy a minimum quantity, say 5 or 12 pack to get it, as they won't be wild about ordering in an oddball size just to sell 1, then having a broken package in inventory forever. Offer to buy the multi pack if it's not an extreme quantity, then sell the rest at Hudson meets to other guys that need one. If they don't have anything that large, you might check with a Heavy Truck or Farm Tractor parts department that fabricates hydraulic hoses that may have a copper gaskets to seal the fittings. After over 25 years of working on Hudsons, the local Car Quest, and independent professional parts suppliers know when I come in that I am after something that won't be "cut- and- dry", and definitely not in their computer, but they do know that if they work with me, that I will buy, and will be worth their time. The older these cars get, we have to be more and more creative in finding sources for these type of parts without having to resort to having things custom fabricated. Hope this may be a help to you.

  • Hi Dave,

Have found you an exact replacement for the original copper crush gasket for the clutch filler plugs. It's available through Restoration Supply Co. www.restorationstuff.com If you download their catalog, scroll down on page 25 to the copper crush port gaskets. The part # GAS 039 , and is a perfect match at $.75 ea. These gaskets are copper wrapped, w/asbestos like core just like the original.
