I've removed the housing from the block. The thermostat won't release from the gooseneck with moderate pressure....what gives?
Can anyone give me some things to try.
I don't want to damage the housing.
Thanks

Well, there are various penetrating oils, but there was an article in 'Vintage Truck' magazine recently where plain water works better and faster. After all, water got in there the last time, and then it dried up and rusted.
Keep it wet and tap it several times a day with a small hammer and suitable punch where the two metals meet.
The other thing, is to ruin the thermostat and then get a new one.0 -
you might try this. Put a hose on the neck, at the other end take a peice of tubeing and braze/weld a flat with a hole in the center closeing one end and then braze an air fitting to that and put it in the other end of the hose. Put some big time air pressure to it. Bud0

Hudson308 is havin fun, that's good, but do be carefull where you aim it. 180 pds of air behind that thing is like a shot gun, And remember ,your applying the same force in the other direction. Best place it in a vice and use a regulater if you can to only use as much pressure as needed. I guess I was assumeing you knew a bit about such things and maybe you do, at any rate use caution and point it where it won't hurt anything, it could come out of there like a rocket !!0
