I believe the shocks from a Supersnipe will do the job

I have successfully used Armstrong lever action shock absorbers, commonly used on many makes of English cars(Austin, Humber, Wolsely, Ford, etc.) of the fifties and earlier, and usually available at swap meets. They seem to be fairly robust, in spite of being made out fo die-cast, and most fo them seem to work fine. A bit of engineering needed in fitting them, like bending the arms and adapting the mounting brackets, but once fitted they work fine.
