And? Did you buy anything? Don't keep us hanging, tell us more.
The cars look pretty solid. 0 -
Also more photos of the crate engine. Not greasy but paint under the dust.0

It looks like those who thought it was a JCW replacement engine where correct. Do the guys here know their stuff or what?0

Thank you Junkhound... the Whitney engine is a super item... do you have other pictures to share? Thanks0
-
Here are a few more of the engine.0
-
A few more of the cars0
-
what happened with the pink one that was between the 54 coupe and the 51 Hornet in the garage photo?0
-
It seems just like yesterday when JC Whitney had Hornet Motors in their Catalogs....I never realized how complete they were unlike todays crate motors ...The Owner must have intended to replace one of the Hudson motors.......Timeless....
Good luck on your bidding...0 -
All 3 cars seem to have good potential. I really hope they and the engine go to a good home.0
-
The pictures of the crate engine I posted must be of a JC Whitney engine also... look carefully at the picture in upper right side of my post and you will see the same label placement as on the engine crate just posted by junkyard. Another interesting thing is the engine in NC was shipped from JCW to the person whose estate is being auctioned! What a find! That engine went from Hudson salvage to JCW to place it is being auctioned... nice to know the history of a NEW Hudson Hornet engine.0

Maybe I am getting cheap , but nothing followed me home!
The crate engine went for $1700,
The black/white 51 went for $6000
The dark green 54 4dr went for $ 1300
The lt/green 54 2dr went for $ 30000 -
One thing I did notice on the crate engine. The oil filter canister had a decal
from American Motors Corp. It must have been sold as surplus after the buyout.
Sorry I did not get a photo.0 -
Well, $1,700.00 for a new Hudson engine seems fair. I wonder if the buyer is going to try and use it or keep it as a display. Does anyone think it would have sold for more if it were pre AMC.?
The black/white 4dr seemed really staight. But isn't $6,000.00 a tad pricey? What did the other green 4 dr sell for?0 -
How much did the Studebakers sell for?0
-
6K for the 51 ya got to be kidding me.....0

The 24{?} Studebaker went for $1000. One 31 model A tudor went for $2800 and the other carcass went for $about $1500. The "crate" motor turned out to a motor in a crate. It was a 55 AMC 308 from J.C. Whitney as had been reported but it was not new. It appeared to have slight wear but not terribly much. Oil was on the manifold and rear valve cover. Paint had peeled off the head. It looked decent but somebody got way too happy with giving their money away IMO. The only car with a title was the $1700 Hornet. The bidding that went on for the $6000 Hornet was a mind blower. Waaaaay too much money for a car that had no title, didn't run, missing a few parts ,needed rechroming etc, etc, but thats what the man thought it was worth so ..... away goes a happy bidder. Best deal was the 54 Hornet coupe. All three cars had solid frames and had been in either a barn or shed since likely the early sixties. The man who owned them was a pack rat. It started at 9:00 AM and by the time they got around to the cars it was 1:30. The other junk that he had took up an incredible amount of time to sell. There was some automotive stuff for sale but after waiting all day it was getting both hot and late, I left after the Hudsons were sold.0

The 24 Studebaker in the field with the hudsons went for $4000. The one at the hotdog stand ,the 21? model touring car went for the $1000. Another spare body for the older one went for $2500.
I left around 4:00 and there was still lots of parts left. They started 2 auctions about 3:000 -
Thanks for the info on the prices. I left after they sold the first Fords. That auctioneer was so fulla bull and so slow it was irritating. I took a bunch of photos and will post a link to them tomorrow after I get them to my web page.
Here is a link to the rest of the photos I took yesterday.

Buz. Thanks for posting the photos. I love a good auction with stuff that has been horded away for decades that someone was going to restore someday. Who said collecting is a disease?0

Thanks, I took the photos and posted them for fun and thought others would like to see them. Of all the old car boards I mentioned them on - this is the only place where I got a positive response. Thanks again.0
