My Disc Brake install - The Pridemore version
Hi folks.
I remember talking to Mr. Pridemore way back about his hubs and brackets for the stepdowns, probably back in October. Well, with his last run of parts, I got cracking and ordered them, along with all of the other stuff to go with the hubs and brackets. I ended up going fancy with a couple of the parts:
Vented Brembo Rotors part # 25544
Hawk HPS pads part # HB119F.594 HPS
Speedway motors part# 6178561
braided stainless flex line kit
The rotors and pads are a recommendation from the 4th gen F-body guys on LS1tech. They seem to like that combo and since those cars can weigh close to 4000lbs, I figured it would be a good match for my hudson and hemi combo. I've used braided stainless lines on my motorcycles for countless years and there is always an improvement when going from rubber lines to stainless. I hope to put up some pics when I install the parts. Right now I'm just waiting on the lines to show up from speedway motors.

Since you are already making some "improvements" in the engine compartment, You might be interested in my addition to the Pridemore setup. I used a Mastercylinder, hydraboost and pedal from Safari (same as Astro), van. No alterations except the holes in the firewall to bolt it in. I no longer use the voltage regulator, so It gave up it's place on the firewall. The pedal position is perfect without having to bend or weld anything. No big vacuum booster canister, but you will need a hydraulic pump. I used a saginaw pump from a similar GM product to also run the power rack and pinion steering.I used the complete hard brake line set off the Safari and hooked up the warning light that lets you know if either the front ot back looses pressure. Absolutely wonderful brakes.0

No kidding.
Dad has the hydraboost setup on his duramax diesel and they are amazing. I think I'll get it together as I have it setup and then see if I need the power assist. Thanks for the suggestion.0 -

I'm planning to put a Borg Warner T5 5 speed overdrive transmission in my '48- it needs a hydraulic clutch. Don't suppose the Astro/Safari has a unit for stick transmission, with clutch pedal and hydraulic clutch setup? That would sure solve a bunch of problems at once. Also, if you're supplying both the hydraboost and power steering from one pump, did you use a priority flow divider, or what, to split the magic juice? Does the pump produce enough for both?0 -

Plumbing was quite easy. I used the original hoses with a little "bending". The pressure line from the pump goes directly to the brake booster, then down to the rack and pinion. From there, the return goes back to the pump. There is a third low pressure or vent line on the booster that also returns to the pump reservoir via the remote reservoir. When I first installed the pump and R&P (before the brake setup,) the steering was a little more touchy than I liked, but after adding the Brake booster, It mellowed out a bit. My original setup had the pump with it's own filler cap mounted above the alternator. I am now in the process of moving it to a where the generator (now alternator) was located. Moving the alternator up higher. I will then replace my reservoir cover with one off the Astro that has no filler cap, and install the remote filler. It will look a little neater. I have no regrets. The brakes are superb.0
