It's in the vacuum tank
Hello again good guys, Pertaining to no gas from the tank, (to the vacuum tank), I have vacuum from the engine but, no V from the fitting that the tank line connects to and, the tank line is clear, (took the gas cap off completely, even though it's vent is clear). then sucked on the tankline and blaugh,... it's clear. so, must be inside the tank right? First off, let's establish what type of tank you have. Is it the die-cast top with lever spring action valves, or the pressed steel top with wire-stem valves?

Wrong! The die cast models have 8 screws, the steel tops have only four. Go and count them!

I found a crack in the float. There was gas inside. Going to solder after it dries up. 4 screws Phil0

Me again, The V tank works fine after soldering. I had the feed line in a portable gas tank using a clear tube. I could see the gas being sucked into the V tank and the motor ran for a good hour so I quickly reattached the OEM line and it ran for a little while longer, then conked out. Out of gas.Again I sucked on the line and instantly and easily I was able to get gas (blaghhh!) What the Nathan Hale is goin on? Next I got a short piece of clear tubing, two clamps and put it in between the V tank and the line(after priming the V tank). Engine starts fast and always when there's gas in the V tank(yes there's about 8 gallons of gas in the OEM tank). So I start the engine again, zoom right up, runs very good, and I can see the V tank sucking gas from the OEM tank for about 10 mins and then.......conks out. Could my gas become more and more clogged somehow after the initial coupling. When connected to a external tank, it stays running. Connect up the OEM and eventually conks.Puzzled in Jersey, Phil0

Phil, it sure looks like you have something floating up to the pick up line and plugging it up, then when the draw stops it floats away again. I think you may need to drop the tank and flush it out again.

Try leaving the fuel tank cap off, it sounds like the breather may be plugged. when it all boils down, "vacuum" = air pressure. If the air can't get, the fule can't get out! Or it could be that the intake pipe is plugged with gunk. Get some fuel tank cleaning compound in there to clear it. The float leak is the same as I had around 40 years ago with my own Essex. But usually this causes them to run over-rich, as the fuel keeps on sicking through until it gets inhaled through the vacuum pipe straight in to the engine. So check on that pipe and pick-up point back at the tank.
