Hi,

I have a '41 Six (model 10). I would like to restore the instrument panels, and would like to locate a source for the textured foil background. Has anyone had any luck finding this, say, at a craft store?

  • Hello,

I have a 41 traveler super six. Should be the same thing. Been to every craft, hobby store I could find. The foil they used on the Hudson seems to be rolled to that texture. I have only found something even close to the color [Green]without the texture. Same with the letters. I bought three sets hoping I could maybe cut something out. Same with the gauge letters, oil, amp, gas. On some of the pieces I had to drill out the rivets to get the thing completly apart.,then I drilled holes and self tapped and cut down some metal screws to put it back together. turned out real nice, Just takes a lot of time. I used plexi glass cleaner on the plastic. If you have to buff any of the pieces on the dash be careful because ther isn't much chrome on the metal. I believe there cast iron.Jim

Thanks, Jim. I was afraid it was going to be a tough one. Fortunately my foil is just plain silver color, so there's at least one easy find. I was going to use the computer to generate the graphics - I think I can find a font close to that used on the panel and hand-paint the colors. It's the darn texture that's confounding me. There's some craft materials to generate textured foil, but none of the patterns are close -- who wants moons and stars on their instruments, for example?
